Play a Mind Game—Word Fractions

The number of vowels in a word represents the numerator of the fraction, the number of consonants stand for the denominator. The word “simple” is equal to 2/4 or 1/2.

Does your child have a spelling list to use for this game?

Older learners can make compound words and add the fractions each make together for a new fraction. Is it equal to either of the two original words?

Advanced learners can separate longer words into two smaller words and then divide the resulting fractions. How does it compare with the original?
