I was at the Department of Motor Vehicles this week and, as is customary, I had a long wait before my business was completed.  So I indulged in one of my favorite methods of passing the time -- People Watching.  In particular, taking note of the shoes everyone was wearing.

There was the usual assortment of sneakers and loafers.  A pair of purple suede boots earned the distinction of being the most colorful.  I also saw a pair of black shoes on one man that were unlike any shoes I have ever seen before.  I could detect no fasteners whatsoever, no laces, no snaps, no velcro.  It was almost as if they had been slipped on like socks.
