Learn About – Giving Good Directions
Choose one person to be the directions giver. All others are direction
followers. The directions followers need a pencil and paper. The direction
giver reads the following instructions aloud and the followers attempt to
draw the item without asking any questions. It is very important that the
direction giver offers no help including hand gestures.
Draw a short line.
Draw another line touching the first line.
Put your pencil at the other end of the second line and draw a half circle.
Look at the drawings. Were these directions easy to follow? What questions
would you have liked to ask? Now repeat the exercise using these
instructions:
Start in the middle of your paper and draw a vertical line about 1 inch long
Place your pencil on the very top of the vertical line that you just drew
and draw a horizontal line that is also one inch long.
Now place your pencil at the bottom of the first line that you drew and draw
a backwards “C” that curves out as far as the horizontal line you drew in
the last step.
Can you recognize what you just drew? What made these instructions easier to
follow that the first set? |
