Alex's Mystery Pictures

Would you like to see one of your photos used as a Mystery Picture?
Follow the steps below to learn how to prepare and submit your photos.
Its easy, and fun!

  • To start off, it is best to use a photo that is much larger than what will be need in the end. This original image measured 3296 x 2472 pixels.

  • The final two images, the clue and answer, will both measure 150 x 125 pixels.  So you will want to do your cropping in increments of this figure.
  • The blue square which measures 1500 x 1250 pixels will be cropped and resized to 150 x 125 pixels and used as the answer .  You may use the photo editing software's rulers and guides to assist in measurement.  If you are a little bit off do not worry, resizing down from 1503 x 1260 to 150 x 125 will not create too much distortion, but it is best to try and get the figures as close as possible.
  • After you have cropped the area to use as your answer and resized it down to the final measurements.  Use the Save-As option with a new name, something like MySubmissionAnswer.jpg, to create your final picture.
  • Please make all possible attempts to save the files as a jpg JPEG file format as this is what is used for the web.
  • From here you are now all done creating the answer image.
  • Next, to create the clue you will either want to use the Undo/Back button to the point that the image is its starting size, or re-open the original file.  Then follow the same steps as the answer to crop the section that will be used as the clue for this picture.
  • The red selection for the clue measured 180 x 150 which was easily resize down to 150 x 125 for the final product.
  • As a last step in many images it is nice to use the Sharpen feature just once to the 150 x 125 images making them a little crisper looking.
  • Please send your images to mystery@whatsfordinner.net and include any photo credit you wish to be displayed.
And here is how your final images should look.
