Patience – It Depends On The Circumstances
People have sometimes commented that I have a
lot of patience. Well, that depends on the circumstances.
If I'm watching a child learn a new skill, yes
I would say that I am a very patient person. I
myself have taken a long time to learn something
new and understand that being rushed doesn't help.
However, if I'm standing behind someone in the
grocery store-in the express lane-and they have
more than the allotted number of items; leave
the line to grab one more thing; pay with a check
using their very best handwriting and wait to
begin writing until after the clerk has stated
the amount, well then my fuse is very short!
What are some circumstances that make it easy
for you to be patient? What things can cause you
to lose your cool quickly?

Play A Game – Two, Two
Word Sentences
A child who is just learning to speak will combine
two words and then use expressions and gestures
to make the meaning clear. For example, the sentence
"Doggie up" could mean that there is
a dog on a high surface somewhere, or it could
mean that the child is going to attempt to pick
up the dog.
A person who has a greater development of language
would phrase the two thoughts very differently.
The first thought could be stated, "There's
a dog looking out of the window of that second-story
apartment". The second thought might sound
something like this, "I wonder if this puppy
will let me pick him up".
Take turns thinking up two word sentences and
then allowing the other players to translate them
into two different, more sophisticated sentences.
You will probably need to use expressions and
gestures to convey your message the same way a
toddler does.
